During the course of the thirty day video challenge, which I recently completed, I met some amazing people who spend a lot of their time growing their businesses online. Of these amazing people, one really amazing person really stood out to me – Christine McDannell.

Christine is a female entrepreneur and social media expert who owns the San Diego social media consulting firm Social Starfish, and from her habits (running and goal setting in the shower) to her powerful business presence, I knew she was a perfect match for the Blogging Fearlessly interview series.

Here, we talk about what it takes to be an entrepreneur, how to be productive, and using social media to grow your local or global business online. Enjoy!

“Don’t Be a Social Media Moron” Video Series

No Comments 17 April 2012

Last week while I was in Arizona I filmed a vlog titled “Don’t Be a Social Media Moron,” which was filled with good stuff, but it was a bit… packed. With info. And fast talking. And all of that rambling that I do when I’m enthusiastic. So, I did another three videos breaking down the “Don’t Be a Social Media Moron” overview vlog.

These three videos take everything a bit more step-by-step, and are far more intelligible. BUT (there’s always a but) with traveling my vlogging quality got even more compromised and the sound is really, really low. So turn up your speakers and listen up – I’m about to show you how not to be a social media moron.

#2 – Reaching Your Readers vs. Industry Professionals

Debunking the Traffic Myth: Why Success Isn’t All About the Numbers

4 Comments 15 March 2012

So here’s what will happen: you’ll start a blog. It will look awesome. You will be obsessed, staying up all night to configure it and fill it out with new amazing content. You will stand back in pure awe as the light shines down on you. How could you have created something so insanely beautiful? It will only be a matter of time until Oprah is calling you and Random House is begging you to write a book.

Now, you need to find a way to chart your traffic. Google Analytics is awesome and it’s free, but it only reloads once a day. If you are anything like me, this will drive you insane. I like checking my traffic throughout the day, so I use Sitemeter, which I love. It updates in real time, and teaches you about your traffic sources in a simple way that even I can understand.

So you set yourself up with an analytics program, and you’re rearing to go, and you have your amazing content, and you refresh, and you have…. 10 visitors. 10 VISITORS? What is this? Didn’t Rebecca Black’s “Friday” have some 30 million views? How are you going to get on Oprah at this rate? Continue Reading
